The Office of Research can help WSU researchers navigate the complex guidelines and and requirements of ethics, safety, responsibility, as well as regulations by funders and government.


Safety is the University’s top priority throughout research, scholarship, and teaching. The Office of Research Assurances (ORA) oversees the committees and boards that ensure compliance with safety standards, including:

ORA also manages the shipping of hazardous and other materials governed by special legal and regulatory requirements. 

Animal care and safety is managed by the Office of the Campus Veterinarian.

Research Integrity and Misconduct

Research integrity and misconduct are also managed under the Office of Research, with the Vice President for Research serving as WSU’s research integrity officer.  Learn more about Research Integrity and Misconduct.

Examine the policies, procedures, and information resources used to manage potential conflicts of interest of faculty, administrators, and staff.

Generative AI

WSU has updated guidance on the use of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) in research.
