Comply With Laws and Guidelines

The Office of Research supports the WSU research community in complying with relevant laws, policies, and guidelines to ensure that research at WSU is conducted to the highest standards of safety and ethical practice.

The Office of Research Assurances (ORA) oversees the presidential committees and boards that ensure compliance with these standards, including:

  • Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
  • Institutional Review Board (IRB)
  • Human Research Protection Program (HRPP)
  • Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)
  • Radiation Safety Committee (RSC)
  • And more

ORA also manages the shipping of hazardous and other materials governed by special legal and regulatory requirements.

The Office of the Campus Veterinarian (OCV) oversees all aspects of care and welfare for animals involved in research and education at WSU. In addition to providing services like veterinary care and other support for research involving animals, OCV acts to ensure that WSU’s animal care and use is consistent with relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines. OCV works closely with IACUC and serves a complementary role.

Research integrity and misconduct are also managed under the Office of Research, with the Vice President for Research serving as WSU’s Research Integrity Officer.
