I-Corps is a National Science Foundation funded program that is managed by the Innovation and Research Engagement team. The program provides coaching for faculty, students and staff to help evaluate the market opportunity associated with a research product or service. We provide teams $2,000 allocation for travel to industry focused conferences and work with them directly to develop and refine a testable value proposition associated with their marker offering. As of fall 2019, the program has helped teams secure over $4 million in prize money and follow-on funding for their business opportunities.
There are two cohorts each year:
- Fall: September – November
- Spring: January – April
A limited number of teams will be accepted into each cohort. Previous business experience or an existing business or technology idea are not required.
The I-CORPS program helped our business model evolve from an idea into a well-defined business plan with a clear vision of the value we bring to our customers. The weeks spent refining the value proposition proved valuable when defending our proposal in front of customers and investors long after the conclusion of the program. Although a significant effort is required from the teams participating, the payoff is more than worth it. Highly recommend for any aspiring business owner and entrepreneur.Arthur Baranovskiy, AYB Drafting LLC.
