In 2020, Fidelis Pharmaceuticals made available the first FDA-indexed extended-release buprenorphine formulation\u00a0(<\/em>Ethiqa XR\u00ae<\/sup>(link is external)<\/em><\/a>)<\/em>\u00a0specifically for mice and rats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recent FDA guidance GFI #256 Compounding Animal Drugs from Bulk Drug Substances<\/em> has been implemented that may impact the future use of Buprenorphine ER (formerly Buprenorphine SR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Campus Veterinary Services encourages labs to review their use of extended-release buprenorphine and consider use of the FDA-approved Ethiqa XR<\/em>\u00ae<\/em> for future studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
