{"id":62,"date":"2017-10-13T11:21:37","date_gmt":"2017-10-13T18:21:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/research.wsu.edu\/operations\/?page_id=62"},"modified":"2026-03-03T13:42:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T21:42:16","slug":"animal-or-human-subjects","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/research.wsu.edu\/operations\/foreign-entities\/animal-or-human-subjects\/","title":{"rendered":"Research With Animal or Human Subjects"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research conducted outside of the U.S.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you plan to conduct research that involves animals or human subjects in another country, start by answering the following questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Does your destination country have specific laws, customs, or ethical procedures that need to be followed when working with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aaalac.org\/resources\/internationalregs.cfm\">animals<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/ohrp\/international\/compilation-human-research-standards\/index.html\">people<\/a>?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prior to traveling, have you completed all paperwork required by the U.S. government and WSU to conduct research with animal or human subjects in another country?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you answered &#8220;yes&#8221; to either of these questions, please contact the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.research-compliance.wsu.edu\/contact.asp\">Office of Research &#8211; Assurances team.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b><\/b>Reminders when conducting human subjects research internationally<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Obtain <u>WSU IRB<\/u><\/strong><strong> approval on any project involving human subjects, regardless of whether or not the project is considered international research.<\/strong> IRB approval is required before conducting any research, domestic or international, involving human subjects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Please<\/strong><strong> consider all aspects of the international research project prior to project initiation. <\/strong>The IRB process will assist in the identification of considerations.
