{"id":11161,"date":"2026-06-05T11:13:45","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T18:13:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.wsu.edu\/operations\/?page_id=11161"},"modified":"2026-07-29T09:15:44","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T16:15:44","slug":"characteristics-of-fixed-price-agreements-and-cost-reimbursable-agreements","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/research.wsu.edu\/operations\/resources\/characteristics-of-fixed-price-agreements-and-cost-reimbursable-agreements\/","title":{"rendered":"Characteristics of Fixed Price Agreements and Cost-reimbursable Agreements"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wsu-spacing-after--small\">ORSO Guideline 28 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Revised April 2nd, 2024 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Projects under fixed price agreements: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>These are similar to purchase orders in which a work product is delivered, i.e., container of chemicals or a computer. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Routine in nature. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The statement of work is well-defined. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The outcome is relatively certain. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Failure is very unlikely. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The University bears the risk that a project does not stay within the budget and must cover any excess. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They are generally short-term in nature (&lt; 1yr.) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Costs are known. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Projects under cost-reimbursable agreements: <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">These are for research and development. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wsu-spacing-after--xsmall\">They include basic research where the outcome is not known and the researcher intends to find an answer whether in the Sponsor&#8217;s favor or not.
