{"id":16908,"date":"2025-03-21T12:54:48","date_gmt":"2025-03-21T19:54:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.wsu.edu\/advancement\/?page_id=16908"},"modified":"2025-08-05T16:16:46","modified_gmt":"2025-08-05T23:16:46","slug":"challenge-3","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/research.wsu.edu\/advancement\/training\/research-impact-challenge\/challenge-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Research Impact Challenge 3: Preserve and Share Your Work with a Digital Repository"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This challenge will explore how scholarly digital repositories can help you make all kinds of scholarly work\u2014from article pre-prints to slide decks to syllabi\u2014easier to preserve, share, discover, and cite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps you\u2019ve shared article pre-prints or other forms of scholarly work with your colleagues over social media or email, or posted them to your personal website. Using a digital repository can make the common activity of exchanging work with colleagues easier and more stable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not all repositories behave exactly the same way, but as a general rule, by depositing work in a repository, you\u2019ll get:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A stable URL<\/strong>&nbsp;for the work that you can share with others or post to social media, your personal website, etc. This stable URL makes it easier for others to cite your work. You also won\u2019t have to worry about broken links, or about migrating and re-posting your work to a new web page if you move to a new institution, or if your website moves to a new platform.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Indexing by Google and Google Scholar,<\/strong>&nbsp;which makes your work more discoverable by others<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Some form of feedback about how the work has been used<\/strong>: how many views it has received, download counts, shares, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many different scholarly repositories. Often they are focused on specific disciplines, such as mathematics or biology; or particular communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Today&#8217;s challenge:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Choose a repository from the following list (or a different one that you know) and take some time to explore it. The Libraries can help pre-populate the profile with citations and information collected from Pivot and other sources. Once created, the profile can feature a range of materials, from articles to datasets, presentations, collaborations with students, and more. To get started, contact&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:libraries.research@wsu.edu\">libraries.research@wsu.edu<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Archive datasets and articles using Research Exchange.
