The Office of Research has a dedicated team of research professionals focused on advancing research across WSU by supporting faculty proposal development, engaging in strategic planning for research initiatives, and developing collaborations with community, industry and research partners.<\/p>\n\n\n

Kim Christen, Ph.D.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Vice President for Research<\/em>

Dr. Kim Christen currently oversees the Office of Research’s advancement efforts in her capacity as WSU Vice President for Research. Dr. Christen is the founder of Mukurtu CMS<\/a> an open-source software platform designed with Indigenous communities globally to meet their unique information, curatorial, and data needs. She is a co-founder and former co-director of Local Contexts<\/a>, a global initiative to provide digital tools and legal frameworks for stewarding digital cultural heritage and\u202fthe management of intellectual property by Indigenous communities. Her research and scholarship explore the intersections data management, software systems, and information ethics specifically addressing issues of access, use and reuse of cultural heritage and traditional knowledge in global network. Her work has been published widely in international journals. Dr. Christen collaborates broadly emphasizing community-engaged research including working closely with Native American nations across Washington state and nationally as well as with Indigenous communities globally to build digital tools and networks as catalysts for social change.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Cheryl Dykstra-Aiello, Ph.D.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Cheryl Dykstra-Aiello joined the Office of Research in October 2023. She supports the Office’s research advancement efforts in a variety of ways, including proposal consultation and development, facilitation of educational and training opportunities to enhance WSU researchers\u2019 proposal writing success, and researching appropriate funding sponsors and collaborative partnerships for WSU\u2019s faculty. Cheryl holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Eastern Washington University and a Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular, and Integrative Physiology from the University of California, Davis.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Lydia Baxter-Howard, M.S.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Lydia Baxter-Howard joined the Office of Research May 2024. Her role includes supporting faculty with all aspects of the pre-award process of proposal development: from finding tailored funding sources and opportunities, to timeline and collaborative prospect management, to proposal consultation and editing. During the academic year she facilitates educational and training opportunities for faculty who are interested in learning more about the proposal writing and award process, or who desire to hone their proposal writing skills. Lydia received a B.A. in Biology from Hope College, and an M.S. in Neuroscience from WSU.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Emily Brashear<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Emily Brashear joined the Office of Research in January of 2016 . She is the point of contact for all funding training and requests, which include the limited submission process. She also manages the New Faculty Seed Grant program, Natural Resources Conservation Fund, and other internal award programs. Among other events, Emily facilitates Information Sessions. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Will Damitio joined the Office of Research in February 2023. He supports the Office of Research’s advancement efforts in a number of ways, including data analysis, communications, and event support. He received a B.A. from Western Washington University in Anthropology and Linguistics and a master\u2019s degree in Anthropology from WSU.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n
