SUMMARY:Two-Part Training Series: Collaborative Research with Tribal and Native American Communities
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by the Office of Tribal Relations and Center for Native American Research and Collaboration \nPart 1: Foundations for Collaborative Research \nTopic: Best Practices for Engaging with Tribal and Native American Community Partners \nDate: 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm\, November 13\, 2025 via Zoom \nGenuine tribal engagement and collaborative research with Tribal partners require foundational skills in relationship building\, cultural respect\, and meaningful listening. Leaders from the Office of Tribal Relations and the Center for Native American Research and Collaboration will guide participants through essential considerations for successful Tribal and Native American community engagement—from identifying research needs to developing Tribal partnerships and co-collaborators. \n  \nPart 2: Deepening Collaborative Research \nTopic: Understanding Tribal Consultation\, Consent\, and Tribal and Data Sovereignty \nDate: 10:00 am – 11:30 am\, November 14\, 2025 via Zoom \nThe Office of Tribal Relations\, alongside Tribal partners\, will discuss key aspects of federal and state legislation and WSU’s Executive Policy 41\, which establishes a respectful and reciprocal approach to Tribal engagement\, consultation\, and consent for research and joint activities with Tribal communities. This policy upholds Tribal sovereignty\, cultural respect\, and WSU’s partnership with Tribal governments\, requiring that university-related activities with potential impacts on Tribal communities involve meaningful consultation. Such consultation seeks to understand Tribal concerns\, secure consent when required\, and uphold Tribal sovereignty\, treaty rights\, data sovereignty\, and the protection of cultural and natural resources. \n  \nAs part of this session\, participants will also learn about the CARE Principles for Indigenous Data Governance\, which guide the respectful handling of data associated with Indigenous peoples. These principles—Collective Benefit\, Authority to Control\, Responsibility\, and Ethics—ensure that data management practices align with Indigenous rights\, cultural values\, and sovereignty.  \n  \nPlease RSVP for the Zoom link and calendar invite.  \n\n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Your Email(Required)\n \n Select each session that you plan to attend.(Required)You are welcome to RSVP again if you later decide that you would like to attend additional sessions.\n \n Thur.\, Nov. 13\, 2025 - Foundations for Collaborative Research\n \n \n Fri.\, Nov. 14\, 2025 - Deepening Collaborative Research\n Select All\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ
