Each research cluster in the multi-disciplinary research group GRACe is comprised, on average, of 15 members and is coordinated by a GRACe faculty member. Dr. Amy Mazur (project coordinator) coordinates the research planning and funding application strategies of all four clusters and will represent GRACe in Washington D.C. The following is a brief description of each cluster’s research program. For more on GRACe visit the GRACe Web site.
Health Sciences Policy Coordinated by Tracy Skaer—health policy administration. Members are from sociology, English, and nursing. Researchers in this cluster will be investigating stress-related illnesses of women in the work place with the intent of determining how stress reduction can be achieved for them through the development of new health programs.
Pedagogy, Education, and Work Coordinated by Kim Vincent—mathematics. Members are from mathematics, education, the writing program, sociology and anthropology. This group seeks to explore the impact of feminist pedagogy on gender and education in terms of content and promoting gender/sex equality in society at large and at the role of feminist academics in this
process.
Representation and Culture Coordinated by Linda Arthur—apparel, merchandising, design and textiles. Members are from history, music, anthropology, psychology, economics, women’s studies, German studies, and sociology. Research projects are being developed to understand how the movement of people and ideas across national boundaries has had an impact on the textual and visual conceptualizations of gender, womanhood, and femininity across a variety of societies throughout the world.
Violence, Militarism, and Hyper Masculinities Coordinated by Jeannette Mageo—anthropology. Members are from women’s studies, history, criminal justice, sociology, and English. This cluster aims to produce a radio program on masculinity, violence, and war and a film on how masculinities relate to war. Members are also interested in conducting research on the relationship of women’s mental health and sex/gender differences and the mental health consequences of trauma for women.
