Susan Dente Ross
Mediating Global Peace through Journalism
Download a printable pdf

Susan Dente Ross explores how news media might enhance peace in our fragmented yet interdependent globalized world. Her underlying premise is that we use the media’s messages to understand our world, yet too often these messages distort reality, increase global conflict, and generally fail to encourage mutual-respect and reconciliation.
Ross seeks funding for international exchange of students, scholars, and professional journalists within her project, Mediating Global Peace and Security: An International Journalism of Reconciliation. The project engages journalists and scholars across three continents working to help media advance social justice and create a global civil society.
A Fulbright Scholar and former newspaper owner, Ross has received support from the Canadian government, the Fulbright Foundation, and the Toda Institute in Tokyo. Widely published in scholarly journals in law, communication, political science, sociology, and peace, she is the founder and director of AccessNorthwest, an organization dedicated to increasing citizen access to government information.
