Celebrating Contemporary Art Music
Gerald Berthiaume promotes the joy and inspiration of contemporary art music through his keyboard performances, teaching, and leadership of WSU’s School of Music and Theatre Arts. His solo piano and chamber music recordings are distributed internationally on several labels.
Exposing all ages to the new sounds and inspiring innovations of modern classical music, he continually seeks new support for broadening the visibility and outreach of the school’s signature annual event, The Festival of Contemporary Art Music (FoCAM). The festival features such renowned composers as John Corigliano, Chen Yi, and Libby Larsen, and premiers the newest music by university faculty and of students, who also receive instruction in composition, performance, and career building. Festival performances draw enthusiastic audiences from the university and from the region. Berthiaume’s goal is to build an archive of quality recordings, sharing his passion for this art form more widely.
